General Questions
What does the Meet & Greet include?
Before your dog can become a camper at Charlie’s Canine Camp, there are a few steps to be taken:
- Registration:Once you have registered yourself and your pet with us by clicking the BOOK NOW button, we will review your information to be sure that all agreements have been signed and vaccination records are up-to-date. At this point, a temperament test can be scheduled.
- Temperament Test Evaluation: Your dog will go through a series of short temperament tests to determine whether or not your dog will be a good fit for Charlie’s. We test for aggression or territorial issues that may pose a threat to your dog or others. We also test for behavioral traits that will help determine which play groups they would thrive in most.
If your dog passes our evaluation, you can either leave your camper with us for the day or we can schedule their first day of day-camp before you leave.
What is needed for dog and cat lodging?
Each camper should pack their bed, blanket, food, leash, and bowl. Please also provide pre-measured meals and pack two days worth of extra food, just in case of an emergency for dog boarding. These items will be available if forgotten, but it is highly recommended that campers bring their own to minimize stress and ensure digestive upset does not occur.
For our cat glamper, please plan on packing your bed, bowls, food, litter, and litter box. Please also provide pre-measured meals and pack two days worth of extra food, just in case of an emergency for dog boarding. Charlie's will provide toys and a scratching-post in your cat cabin. Please also bring any medications (if needed), along with a crate for easy pick-up and drop-off.
How does mealtime work?
Charlie’s will feed meals to our campers 2-3 times each day depending on your pet’s needs. Ample time is given before and after meals to allow for each dog to relax and digest their food properly. Meal times are:
- Breakfast: 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
- Lunch: 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
- Dinner 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
What steps are taken to protect my pet’s health?
Every animal that enters Charlie’s must show proof of up-to-date vaccinations. We thoroughly sanitize every area with TP-256 products. These cleaning products are safe for pets yet very effective at eliminating canine and feline viruses and bacteria.
What happens if there is an incident between my pet and another?
We take every precaution to minimize incidents from occurring but sometimes a dog can just have an off day.
If an incident does happen, we will separate the dogs and inspect those involved for any injuries. Should they need medical attention, we will call our emergency veterinarian to come to the facility for treatment. We will inform you or your emergency contact if we cannot contact you. We will make a note in the files of all dogs involved and make adjustments on a case by case scenario. If it was a minor incident and we believe your dog will do better in a different playgroup or as a lone wolf, we will make the proper adjustments.
Do you use crates?
Yes… we use crates. However, we believe crates are not to be used for punishment but are designed to be used as a safe place for dogs to relax and recharge. If your dog is not crate trained, we will help to change that.
What vaccinations are required?
The following vaccinations must be administered at least 48 hours before arrival. However, we prefer vaccinations to be administered 10 days before check-in. Written proof is required.
- DPP (Distemper, Parvovirus & Parainfluenza): 1 or 3-year vaccine required.
- Bordetella: Required every 12 months and at least 48 hours before check-in to ensure maximum efficiency and protection against Kennel Cough. Please note that many veterinarians administer this vaccine only by request. Charlie's Canine Camp can also administer the Bordetella. No appointment needed. Stop on Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
- Rabies: 1 or 3-year vaccine required.
- Fleas & Ticks: In addition to vaccinations, all dogs should be flea and tick-free. Campers with signs of fleas and/or ticks will be treated at our Grooming Shop at the pet parent’s expense.
My dog is nervous about XYZ. Is there a way to accommodate their needs?
Our goal is to make every camper’s experience a positive one at Charlie’s. We will spend one-on-one attention with each dog to figure out what makes them comfortable and design their stay accordingly. We play calming music during nap time to create a peaceful environment for relaxation. We also have CBD products for sale if you’d like us to administer them during your dog’s stay. If your dog is anti-dog, we can accommodate to give them solo time away from the rowdiness of the playful pooches.
Dog Day Camp Questions
What are the benefits of dog day camp?
Once you and your furry family member experience the benefits of dog day camp, it will be hard to go back!
We believe that every dog deserves to experience dog day camp. Not only will your dog love the physical and mental stimulation they will get during the day, but you can breathe a sigh of relief knowing they are being cared for during those long hours away from home.
At Charlie’s, we have 11 indoor/outdoor play areas that allow us to create smaller, more strategically formed play groups. We strive to get to know your four-legged pal on a personal level. This allows us to give them individualized care that is tailored to their unique personality and play style. Whether they do well in a group setting or as a lone wolf, we can accommodate their needs.
